I love Uhuru's political psychology!

President Uhuru's team has the most admirable strategy in playing with the national psyche.

When the issue of land became a big elephant in the political debate, almost threatening his locus during the presidential campaigns, Uhuru's strategists threw an interesting psychological spin. They tactfully 'withdrew' Uhuru from the debates, citing a myriads of issues. This effectively slowed and toned down the moderators. They were now to prove that they were indeed unbiased and objective.

With Uhuru having 'withdrawn' from the debates, the moderators now had no option but research on other presidential candidates. Uhuru was to confirm later in the day his change of mind. Too late for the moderators to research on pertinent land questions. Even the presidential rivals were not prepared to face Uhuru, they were all in a spin! You all know how they fared at that final and crucial debate!

VAT on Consumables:
I can comfortably bet that the Consumables won't be taxed tomorrow. This is yet another strategic psychological spin at play. Everyone, including Jubilee understands its suicidal to increase the cost of food at this moment. Economy is still crawling, and the government is barely 200 days in power. It was popularly elected (well, that's debatable!) and the government wouldn't want to erode public support this early. With the renewed vigor of civil societies, civil unrest would be triggered by popular Tax revolt.

Here is my take: To divert attention, Uhuru's strategists have toyed with the idea of taxing food commodities to whip public emotions. When the budget is finally read, food will have been spared, but we will have heaved a collective sigh of relief ( that the government spared food commodities) to even realize that we coughed out more money through other hitherto untaxed avenues!

In short, even if the budget proposes that we pay tax on our hair, we will be glad that at least it was not tax on food! :)
